Communicating with the Changing Teen

This class is for any parent with a teen or pre-teen (5th grade and older). It can also be for any parent who wants to learn more about this topic, regardless of your child's age. In this session, we will learn about what's taking place inside our teens' brains during these changing years, as well as talk about strategies that we can use to effectively, lovingly, and positively communicate with our children.

We will begin with dinner at 6:30. Please let us know if you will be joining us so we can ensure we have enough food. Also let us know if you will require child care.  RSVP here

Here is the background information of our presenter, Jill Wattles:

It is my passion to collaboratively develop positive communications between family members. I have had many opportunities to be involved in teens and families lives. After graduating with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Psychology and completing a Master's in Counselor Education, I worked in various school settings and specialty areas. I was a High School Counselor for one year before moving to the east coast; 6th grade teacher for 7 years focusing on brain development, health, and communication topic; coached volleyball for high school and basketball for grade school; music teacher for preschool; first grade paraprofessional and now I am a full-time first grade teacher through the City of Falls Church. The majority of my teaching, counseling, and coaching have been with teens. I have three children ages 16, 13, and 8. I look forward to exploring various research and finding strategies and practices that can help you walk through the turbulent teenage years.
